YouTube thumbnail images

Custom thumbnails should meet YouTube’s 16:9 minimum so Studio doesn’t reject or upscale soft art. Normalize every episode still in one frame, compress lightly, then attach in YouTube Studio. For channel art, see the YouTube image resizer guide for the wide banner preset.

  1. 1
    Upload
Collect catalog images (PNG, JPEG, WebP, or a ZIP). Open image tools and start in Bulk Resize if you need consistent frame sizes first, or go straight to Bulk Compress if pixels are already correct.
  2. 2
    Optimize (resize)
In Bulk Resize, pick the YouTube Thumbnail preset (1280×720) or match your category's required aspect ratio with custom width and height. Optional: Bulk Convert if you need JPG for upload. See the YouTube image resizer guide.
  3. 3
    Compress
Run Bulk Compress so storefronts and listing pages load quickly on mobile. Start with High Quality, then try Balanced if portals still reject file size. Tips: bulk image compressor.
  4. 4
    Quick checks
Confirm dimensions, format, and file size against YouTube's latest listing rules (borders, text, backgrounds). Policies change — use your YouTube Studio checklist as the source of truth before you publish.
  5. 5
    Export (ZIP)
Each tool ends with Download ZIP. Unpack, verify a sample listing in preview, then upload in YouTube Studio. Premium keeps saved downloads longer — see pricing.
