How to remove backgrounds from images in bulk

Upload up to 5 images per job (Free) or 20 (Premium), run BiRefNet on our servers, and download transparent PNGs in a ZIP.

Overview

Background Removal uses our API and BiRefNet to produce **true transparent PNGs** (RGBA alpha). Unlike resize or compress, images are uploaded for server processing.

Before you start

  • A **guest session** starts automatically, or sign in for a registered account
  • Check your **plan quota** on the tool page (daily and monthly limits)

Quotas

  • **Per job:** 5 images (Free) · 20 (Premium)
  • **Per day:** 10 removals (Free) · 100 (Premium)
  • **Per month:** 30 removals (Free) · 1000 (Premium)

Premium users get downloads saved for 7 days on the dashboard and can re-download. Free users should download within 24 hours.

Step-by-step

  1. Open Background Removal.
  2. Wait for the session to show **ready** (guest or logged-in).
  3. Add images or **one ZIP** using the drop zone (thumbnails, remove, and add-more work the same as other tools).
  4. Review the file list — only supported raster types (.png, .jpg, .webp, .bmp) are used.
  5. Click **Remove backgrounds & download ZIP**.
  6. The page uploads your files, then **polls job status** while BiRefNet runs (this can take minutes per image on CPU).
  7. When complete, click **Download ZIP** for transparent PNGs.

Tips

  • Use smaller batches if jobs time out — start with 5 images to test quality
  • Max **10 MB** per image
  • Premium: find past jobs and re-download from your Dashboard for up to 7 days
